What it is

The HULKMAN Alpha 85 is a 2000 A peak 12 V lithium jump starter built around a 74 Wh (20,000 mAh) lithium-polymer battery. It crank-starts gas engines up to 8.5 L and diesel engines up to 6.0 L — a class above the entry-tier 1000 A units — and adds a 3.3-inch front-panel display that shows live battery state, fault codes, and operational status.

A 65 W USB-C input drives a sub-90-minute full recharge, and the unit doubles as a 20,000 mAh USB power bank via integrated USB-A and USB-C output ports.

Where it fits

  • Larger gas and diesel engines. The 8.5 L gas / 6.0 L diesel capability covers full-size pickups (6.2 L / 6.7 L diesel), most midsize and full-size SUVs, work vans, and small marine inboards.
  • Cold-weather use. The -5 °F / -20 °C operating floor matters for Canadian winter starts. Lithium chemistry typically gives up cranking current in the cold; HULKMAN’s published rating still shows usable output at the low end.
  • Front-panel diagnostics. The 3.3-inch screen surfaces battery state and connection errors without an app, useful at the side of the road in the dark or in bad weather.
  • Dual-purpose USB power. The integrated USB ports turn the unit into a 20 K-mAh laptop / phone bank when the engine is fine.

Where it doesn’t

  • No published NRTL safety mark on the cited source. HULKMAN’s spec page does not list cULus, CSA, ETL, or other Canadian-recognized safety certification marks for this model. Lithium jump starters sit in a lower-tier safety regime than mains-installed gear, but absence of an explicit mark matters to buyers who care about it.
  • AC charging needs a 65 W USB-C charger to hit the published 90-minute recharge. A slower wall charger still works; the unit just takes proportionally longer to reach full.
  • Not a charger. Like every jump starter, the Alpha 85 boosts a dead vehicle battery long enough to crank the engine — it does not restore the vehicle battery’s charge. The alternator does that once the engine is running.
