About Voltery
Voltery is independent product research and recommendations for consumer electrical gear, written for a Canadian audience.
What we cover
Anything someone buys to generate, store, distribute, manage, or use electricity in or around a home, vehicle, or property. Concretely:
- Portable power stations
- Solar panels, charge controllers, and full solar kits
- Home backup — standby generators, transfer switches, whole-home batteries
- EV charging — Level 2 home chargers, charging cables, smart switches
- Power banks, USB-C chargers, GaN chargers
- UPS and surge protection
- Inverters and DC-DC converters
- Cellular boosters (where they intersect with off-grid power)
- Smart plugs and home energy monitors
We do not cover clothing, food, non-electrical tools, or anything where the electricity is incidental.
Why Canadian
Most of the existing English-language coverage in this space is written for a US audience. That means:
- Spec choices ignore the temperature ranges that matter on a Canadian cottage weekend or an Alberta winter morning
- Certifications quoted are UL / ETL only, not CSA
- Pricing, taxes, and warranty terms reflect a US buyer
- Vendor availability and shipping times assume US warehouses
We start from the Canadian end: prices in CAD, CSA where it applies, cold-weather behavior called out explicitly, vendor footprint in Canada checked before recommending.
How we work
Every product page on this site is built from primary sources — manufacturer spec sheets, official datasheets, the vendor’s own product page — and then synthesized into our own writing. We do not paste vendor marketing copy.
When we do not know something, we say so. When a fact is not on the manufacturer’s published specs, we either chase it down across additional primary sources or we leave it out. We do not invent specifications, fabricate test results, or quote review scores we did not earn.
We do not currently publish hands-on reviews. When we do, those reviews will be clearly marked, and they will only cover units we actually have in hand. Until then, our content is framed as research and comparison, not first-hand testing.
How we make money
Voltery participates in affiliate programs. When you click an outbound product link on this site and complete a purchase on the vendor’s site, we earn a commission. The price you pay is not affected.
We are paid by the affiliate networks, not by the brands themselves. We have no paid placements, no sponsored posts, and no agreement with any vendor that obliges us to recommend their product.
If a product is the right pick on the merits, we recommend it. If it isn’t, we say so or we leave it off. The set of products we cover at any time is driven by what we think is worth covering, not by which programs we’ve been approved for.
See the Privacy Policy for how outbound clicks are logged on our side, and what cookies the destination vendor may set on their own domain after the redirect.
