What it is

The Battery Tender Plus is Deltran’s flagship 1.25 A trickle charger and long-term battery maintainer for 12 V lead-acid batteries — flooded, sealed, AGM, and gel-cell. A microprocessor runs the four-stage ISM charge program (initialization, bulk, absorption, float maintenance) and switches to float automatically once the battery reaches full state of charge, so the unit can be left connected indefinitely without overcharging the battery.

The 2025-revision housing is IP65-sealed and carries an ETL / cETL listing — the Intertek mark recognized in Canada under SCC accreditation, equivalent in regulatory weight to cULus or CSA marks for battery chargers in this class.

Where it fits

  • Seasonal storage. The classic Battery Tender use case: motorcycle, snowmobile, ATV, boat, classic car, lawn tractor stored through the off-season. Plug in, leave attached for months, battery stays at full state of charge.
  • Smaller starter batteries. 1.25 A is the right rate for motorcycle, ATV, lawn-tractor, and small marine starter batteries (typically 8–35 Ah). For larger 60–80 Ah automotive batteries the unit still works but bulk charging is slow — a heavier 5 A+ charger finishes the same job in a fraction of the time.
  • Outdoor / unheated storage. IP65 sealing handles rain and dust; the charger can mount on a wall in an unheated garage, shed, or barn through the Canadian winter.

Where it doesn’t

  • Not a fast charger. 1.25 A means 8–16 hours of bulk charging on a typical car battery. Buyers who want garage-day turnaround on a drained battery should look at higher-current chargers (CTEK MXS 5.0 at 4.3 A or Schumacher SC1280 at 15 A in this catalog).
  • Not a jump starter. Like the CTEK and Schumacher chargers, the Plus charges; it does not boost a dead battery to crank an engine.
  • Lead-acid only. No lithium (LFP) profile.

Practical considerations

  • Pick the right tier. Deltran’s “Plus” tier is 1.25 A and aimed at smaller / seasonal batteries. For larger primary automotive batteries (60+ Ah), the same line includes higher-current chargers (Battery Tender Junior at 0.75 A for smaller, Power Tender Plus at 5 A for larger) that are worth a look.
  • Canadian availability. Battery Tender is widely stocked at Canadian Tire and Princess Auto in addition to direct sale from Deltran’s online store. The cETL listing means the unit is accepted by Canadian electrical inspectors and insurance underwriters who require an NRTL mark.
